Ryan E. Stearns
Ryan Stearns heads litigation for the firm. His decision to pursue a career in law came after he played on 2 national championship rugby teams for U.C. Berkeley in 1985 and 1986, and then toured various parts of the world playing competitive rugby.
Mr. Stearns practices real estate and business litigation, and handles complex family law matters. He also serves as general counsel to a number of companies.
Mr. Stearns’ career began in the areas of business and real estate litigation, representing many small and mid-sized businesses and developers, which he continues to do today. He also represents select Fortune 500 companies.
Over time, Mr. Stearns developed a practice in family law, having seen a demand for experienced trial lawyers in that area of law. He believed that his experience in real estate and business would provide him an advantage in family law and Mr. Stearns intuition was correct. Today he is sought by many individuals for representation in divorce, custody, and other family law matters, as well as in estate litigation. While Mr. Stearns has been fortunate to represent high profile individuals and high-level executives in family law matters, he offers his services to anyone needing assistance.
Mr. Stearns is a denominated “Advocate” by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He is certified by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in Family Law and is also certified by the State of California as a Minor’s Counsel, which allows him to represent children in highly contested custody cases.
Mr. Stearns’ approach in all litigation matters is to first search for solutions for his clients, so that litigation is the last alternative. However, if no solution is possible, he employs the most innovative, direct, and aggressive trial techniques to the cases he handles.
Mr. Stearns attended law school at Southwestern University, graduating in 1992. He presently sits on the Board of Visitors and Executive Committee for Southwestern.
Mr. Stearns is a member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, where he serves on the Executive Committee for the Family Law Section, and South Bay Bar Association.
